Guilty plea to sex offender registration violation

Today, April 30, 2012, in Muscatine County District Court:

ALLEN DEAN SAUER, DOB: 7/15/1974, formerly of 605 W. 3rd St., Muscatine, pleaded guilty to Violation of Sex Offender Registry Requirements, an aggravated misdemeanor.

SAUER was arrested by the Muscatine County Sheriff's Department after an investigation revealed that he had failed to update his registration information with the Sheriff in January, 2012. Due to SAUER's prior conviction for Attempted Enticement of Minor he is required to update his information on a quarterly basis.

SAUER will be sentenced at a later date.

Guilty plea in meth delivery case

Today, April 30, 2012, in Muscatine County District Court:

LACY DAWN GODDARD, DOB: 9/8/1981, of 1403 Oregon St., Muscatine, pleaded guilty to two counts of Delivery of a Controlled Substance, each a class "C" felony.

GODDARD was arrested by the Muscatine County Drug Task Force in connection with an investigation in which she sold methamphetamine on two separate occasions the fall of 2011 to a confidential source working under the direction of the Muscatine County Drug Task Force.

She will be sentenced June 8, 2012, at 9:15 a.m. She remains in custody in the Muscatine County Jail pending sentencing.

Man sentenced for forgery and theft

Today, April 27, 2012, in Muscatine County District Court:

JACOB SKIPTON, DOB: 8/22/1987, of 311 South 4th Street, Wapello, was sentenced for Theft in the Second Degree and two counts of Forgery. The Court granted a deferred judgment and placed the defendant on probation.

Investigation by the West Liberty Police Department showed that SKIPTON had stolen checks and passed them at a business.

Prison sentence for meth manufacture

Today, April 27, 2012, in Muscatine County District Court:

JASON GARRETT, DOB: 9/18/1975, 605 E. 8th St., Muscatine, was sentenced for Manufacture of a Controlled Substance and Theft in the Third Degree. He received concurrent sentences of incarceration of ten and two years respectively.

GARRETT was arrested by the Muscatine County Drug Task Force after an investigation into a shoplifting incident in which GARRETT was found to be in possession of a plastic bottle containing methamphetamine manufacturing chemicals.

Forty year prison sentence for sexual abuse of a child

Today, April 27, 2012, in Muscatine County District Court:

JACK JOSHUA MATHIS, DOB: 7/28/1985, was sentenced for four counts of Lascivious Acts with a Child. The Court imposed consecutive prison terms for a total term of incarceration of not to exceed 40 years. In addition, the defendant will be placed on supervised release as if on parole for the remainder of his life after completing his sentence of incarceration. He will also be required to register as a sex offender.

Investigation by the Muscatine Police Department showed that MATHIS had sexually abused a five year old girl by forcing her to perform sex acts upon him.

The defendant had been in jail since his arrest on November 22, 2011. He will be transported to the Iowa Medical and Classification Center at Oakdale to commence his sentence.

Muscatine man sentenced for operating while intoxicated and domestic abuse

Today, April 20, 2012, in Muscatine County District Court:

ROBERT STEVEN BURKE, III, DOB: 12/24/1971, of 1410 E. 5th Street, Muscatine was sentenced for Operating a Motor Vehicle While Intoxicated, third offense and Domestic Abuse Assault, second offense. The Court imposed consecutive prison terms of five and two years respectively. He was placed in the custody of the Iowa Department of Corrections.

BURKE was arrested on the OWI charge September 11, 2011, by the Muscatine Police Department. He was operating a motor vehicle near the intersection of East Second Street and Mulberry Avenue when he was stopped by police for speeding. Subsequent investigation revealed that he was intoxicated. He had been convicted of OWI twice in the previous 12 years.

The domestic abuse charge came from an incident at his residence on November 2, 2011, where he assaulted his wife. This incident was also investigated by the Muscatine Police Department.

Conesville man sentenced for burglary

Today, April 20, 2012, in Muscatine County District Court:

HERIBERTO VALENZUELA, DOB: 1/8/1994, of 310 Burlington St., Conesville, was sentenced for the offense of Burglary in the Third Degree, a class "D" felony. The defendant was granted a deferred judgment and placed on probation. He will be required to complete programming at the Residential Correctional Facility in Davenport as a condition of probation.

VALENZUELA was arrested by the Conesville Police Department and the Muscatine County Sheriff's Office in connection with a residential burglary in Conesville. He was 17 years of age when the burglary occurred.

Prison sentence for child sex abuse

Today, April 20, 2012, in Muscatine County District Court:

CARLOS BAUTISTA-VALERA, DOB: 7/5/1975, formerly of 1207 Wisconsin Street, Muscatine, was sentenced for two counts of Lascivious Acts with a Child, each a class "C" felony. The court imposed consecutive terms of incarceration for a total term of 20 years. In addition the defendant is subject to lifetime supervised release as if on parole when he completes the prison sentence.

Investigation by the Muscatine Police Department showed that BAUTISTA-VALERA had sexual contact with a child. The abuse occured while the child was between five and eight years of age.

Muscatine County District Court 4/13/2012

The following occurred in Muscatine County District Court on Friday, April 13, 2012:

DANIEL SIMMONS, DOB: 7/26/1983, of 23601 122nd Ave. West, Illinois City, IL, was sentenced for the offense of Manufacture of a Controlled Substance, a class “C” felony. SIMMONS received a sentence of imprisonment for a term not to exceed ten years with a one-third mandatory minimum and a $1,000 fine.

SIMMONS was arrested by the Muscatine County Drug Task Force after an investigation into suspicious purchases at a Muscatine business. SIMMONS was found to be in possession of methamphetamine manufacturing chemicals and equipment.



LEANN DANIELSON, DOB: 6/27/1971, of 109 E. 4th Street, Apt. A, Muscatine, was sentenced for the offense of Manufacture of a Controlled Substance, a class “C” felony. DANIELSON received a deferred judgment and was placed on probation for two years.

DANIELSON was arrested by the Muscatine County Drug Task Force after an investigation into a methamphetamine lab at her residence.


SONYA SARGEANT, DOB: 3/27/1981, of 11292 G-44X, Muscatine, was sentenced for a probation violation for the offenses of Theft in the Second Degree and Forgery. The defendant had previously been placed on probation and ordered to complete programming at the Residential Correctional Facility in Davenport. SARGEANT violated RCF rules and was sentenced to concurrent terms of incarceration not to exceed five years on each count. SARGEANT had originally been arrested by the Muscatine Police Department.

Probation violation in theft and burglary case

Today (April 6, 2012) in Muscatine County District Court the probation of LUIS COULTER, DOB: 12/2/1991, was revoked by the Court for the offenses of Theft in the Second Degree and Burglary in the Third Degree, each a class "D" felony. COULTER had been placed on probation December 5, 2010, for those offenses and ordered to successfully complete the program at the Residential Correctional Facility in Davenport, Iowa.

The court found that COULTER had violated the terms of his probation and revoked his probation. He was ordered to serve concurrent prison sentences for terms not to exceed five years on each count. He was transported to the Iowa Medical and Classification Center at Oakdale to commence serving his sentence.

Sentencing in forgery case

Today (April 6, 2012) in Muscatine County District Court SERVANDO GARCIA-PEREZ, DOB: 8/9/1985, of Rock Island, Illinois, was sentenced for the offenses of Forgery and Identity Theft. Investigation by the Muscatine County Sheriff's Office showed that the defendant had worked at a Muscatine business under a false name. The defendant was granted a deferred judgment and placed on probation for two years.

West Liberty man sentenced for burglary and theft

Today (April 6, 2012) in Muscatine County District Court, BRYAN GIOVANNI BEJARANO, (DOB 8/19/1993) of West Liberty, was sentenced for Burglary in the Third Degree and Theft in the Second Degree. BEJARANO received a deferred judgment and was placed on probation for two years. Investigation by the West Liberty Police Department showed that the defendant had burglarized a residence and taken electronic equipment.

Burlington man sentenced for cocaine delivery

Today (April 6, 2012) in Muscatine County District Court RYAN CRAIG HAND (DOB: 4/6/1980), of Burlington, Iowa was sentenced for Delivery of a Controlled Substance, a class "C" felony.

The court imposed a sentence of incarceration for a term not to exceed ten years and imposed a mandatory minimum term of one third of the maximum sentence. Investigation by the Muscatine County Drug Task Force showed that HAND had delivered cocaine in August of 2011. HAND had three prior felony convictions for drug trafficking.

HAND was transported to the Iowa Medical and Classification Center at Oakdale to begin serving his sentence.

West Liberty man sentenced for sexual abuse

Today (April 6, 2012) in Muscatine County District Court RICARDO BECERRA-MARTINEZ (DOB: 2/22/1992), formerly of 726 W. Prairie Street, West Liberty, was sentenced for the offense of Sexual Abuse in the Third Degree, a class "C" felony. The court imposed a sentence of incarceration for a term not to exceed ten years. In addition the court ordered that upon being released from prison that the defendant shall be placed on supervised release as if on parole for the remainder of his life. The defendant will also be required to register as a sex offender.

The investigation by the Muscatine Police Department showed that the defendant sexually abused a fifteen year old female in a motor vehicle parked outside a residence in Muscatine on October 30, 2011.

The defendant was transported to the Iowa Medical and Classification Center at Oakdale to commence serving his sentence. He had been in custody at the Muscatine County Jail since his arrest in the early morning hours of October 31, 2011.
