Prison sentence for domestic abuse assault

Today, November 26, 2014, in Muscatine County District Court:

DAVID HUERTA, DOB: 12/26/1977, of Muscatine was sentenced after pleading guilty to Domestic Abuse Assault, third offense. The court imposed a prison sentence of not to exceed five years. The defendant must serve one year of incarceration prior to being eligible for parole. Investigation by the Muscatine Police Department showed that HUERTA assaulted and caused injuries to his girlfriend. He had two prior convictions for domestic abuse offenses within the previous 12 years.


In other cases:

ANGEL GONZALEZ, DOB: 10/21/1993, of Muscatine, pleaded guilty to Lascivious Acts with a Child and Indecent Contact with a Child. Investigation by the Muscatine Police Department showed that he had been involved in sexual contact with a person under the age of 14. He will be sentenced January 9, 2015, at 9:15 a.m. He faces a maximum of 12 years imprisonment for the offenses.

DANIEL CONSTANTINE BRATCHER, DOB: 3/20/1968, of Muscatine was sentenced after being found guilty at jury trial of Assault with Intent to Commit Sexual Abuse. The court imposed a prison term of not to exceed two years. The defendant will additionally be required to register as a sex offender for life and will be on parole for 10 years following his prison sentence.

MORRIS ANTHONY NUNN, DOB: 9/24/1966, of Muscatine was sentenced after pleading guilty to Eluding, Operating While Intoxicated, and Driving While Revoked. The Court imposed a prison term totaling six years. The defendant had attempted to elude a Muscatine County Sheriff's Deputy and was intoxicated at the time. He was found on a separate occasion to be driving on a revoked license.

Charges Filed in Armed Robbery

Muscatine County Attorney Alan R. Ostergren announced today, November 20, 2014, that charges have been filed in connection with a robbery on November 19, 2014. Detectives with the Muscatine Police Department today arrested WILLIAM LEE HARTMAN, DOB: 7/10/1979 without incident. HARTMAN has been charged with Robbery in the First Degree and Using a Juvenile to Commit a Public Offense. The charges are punishable by a total sentence of not to exceed 35 years.

The criminal complaints allege that HARTMAN committed a theft in the 200 block of Walnut Street at approximately 1:30 a.m. on November 19, 2014, by assaulting the victim. The complaints further allege that HARTMAN used a juvenile accomplice to commit the offense and that a knife was displayed and the victim was threatened with being killed.

HARTMAN will be held without bond in the Muscatine County Jail pending initial appearance tomorrow morning.

The criminal charges set forth above are merely accusations. The defendant enjoys the presumption of innocence in the criminal justice system.
