Prison Sentence for Muscatine Man Convicted of Lascivious Acts with a Child

July 25, 2014:

TYLER HOWELL, DOB: 6/10/1995, of Muscatine, was sentenced after pleading guilty to Lascivious Acts with a Child, a class "D" felony. Investigation by the Muscatine Police Department showed that HOWELL solicited a child under the age of 12 to engage in a sex act. The Court sentenced the defendant to an indeterminate prison term of not to exceed five years and imposed a fine of $7,500.

Muscatine County District Court 7/11/2014

SHAWN WAKEFIELD, DOB: 6/23/1983, of Muscatine, pleaded guilty to Child Endangerment Causing Bodily Injury and Domestic Abuse Assault Strangulation. Investigation by the Muscatine Police Department showed that on March 27, 2014, the defendant struck his stepson in the face causing a fractured nose. He then used his hands and arms to place pressure on his wife's neck. He will be sentenced on August 29, 2014, at 9:00 a.m.

BRANDON SHABATURA, DOB: 7/22/1989, of Muscatine, pleaded guilty to Burglary in the Third Degree. Investigation by the Muscatine Police Department showed that he and a codefendant broke into a storage shed in an attempt to steal scrap metal. He will be sentenced August 22, 2014, at 9:15 a.m.

MADISON PRUISNER, DOB: 3/04/1994, of Muscatine, admitted to violation of probation for three counts of Criminal Mischief in the Second Degree. The court revoked her probation and imposed concurrent prison sentences for a total term of not to exceed five years.

JAMES SALVADOR ROCHA, DOB: 12/9/1996, of Muscatine, pleaded guilty to Burglary in the Second Degree. Investigation by the Muscatine Police Department showed that he forcibly entered a residence and assaulted a person inside. He will be sentenced August 22, 2014, at 9:30 a.m.

Prison Sentences in Two Sexual Abuse Cases

Today, July 3, 2014, in Muscatine County District Court:

TROY RHODES, DOB: 7/2/1979, of Muscatine, pleaded guilty and was sentenced for the offense of Assault with Intent to Commit Sexual Abuse. Due to a prior conviction for the same offense the punishment was doubled and he was sentenced to a total indeterminate term of not to exceed four years in prison. He must serve 85% of the maximum term before being eligible for parole and will be on supervised release for ten years following the completion of his prison sentence. Investigation by the Muscatine Police Department showed that RHODES touched an adult female in her groin area with the intent to sexually abuse her.

DAVID ROY RICKEY, SR., DOB: 3/27/1951, of Muscatine was sentenced after being found guilty at a jury trial of the offense of Sexual Abuse in the Second Degree. Investigation by the Muscatine Police Department showed that he fondled the genitals of a six year old child in the year 2003. The Court imposed a sentence of imprisonment for a term not to exceed 25 years. RICKEY must serve 70% of the maximum term before being eligible for parole.

Davenport Man Convicted of Sexual Abuse in the First Degree After Jury Trial

Today, July 1, 2014, in Muscatine County District Court a jury found JOSHUA CORWIN, DOB: 4/26/1982, of Davenport, guilty of Sexual Abuse in the First Degree, Willful Injury, and Theft in the Second Degree. The trial lasted seven days.

Evidence at trial showed that on May 15, 2013, CORWIN burst into the home of an ex-girlfriend and assaulted her. The victim suffered five facial fractures. CORWIN then forced the victim to engage in sexual intercourse. CORWIN arrived at the residence, located in rural Muscatine County, in a vehicle which he had stolen in Davenport.

"I would like to thank the jury for their hard work on this case," said Muscatine County Attorney Alan R. Ostergren. "I also want to recognize the bravery of the victim. She gave us the evidence we needed to get guilty verdicts," Ostergren continued.

The case was investigated by the Muscatine County Sheriff's Office. Also involved in the investigation were the Davenport Police Department and the East Moline (Illinois) Police Department. "A great deal of credit is due to Capt. Ardyth Orr, Sgt. Quinn Riess, and Det. John Lindner of the Muscatine County Sheriff's Office for their work on this case," added Ostergren.

CORWIN faces a mandatory sentence of life without the possibility of parole when he is sentenced on September 5, 2014, at 9:00 a.m.
