Muscatine County District Court 7/27/2012

Today in Muscatine County District Court:

VERONICA SOLIS, DOB: 8/26/1981, of 1018 Kammerer Court, Muscatine pled guilty to Conspiracy to Commit a Nonforcible Felony, a class "D" felony. Investigation by the Muscatine County Drug Task Force showed that she had participating in the distribution of methamphetamine in the Muscatine area.

AARON SINDT, DOB: 11/17/1992, of 3882 W. 3rd St., Montpelier, pled guilty to Theft in the Second Degree, a class "D" felony. Investigation by the Muscatine County Sheriff's Office showed that the defendant participated in the theft of items from a vehicle which had broken down mechanically.

ADAM BASSETT, DOB: 8/2/1986, of 901 E. 9th Street., Muscatine, was sentenced for two counts of Child Endangerment Resulting in Bodily Injury. The court granted the defendant a deferred judgment and placed him on supervised probation. The case had been investigated by the Muscatine Police Department.

Muscatine woman pleads guilty to participation in methamphetamine conspiracy

Today, July 23, 2012, in Muscatine County District Court, DOLORES ZAMUDIO, DOB: 6/21/1963, formerly of 1018 Kammerer Court, Muscatine, pleaded guilty to Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Deliver, a class "C" felony.

Investigation by the Muscatine County Drug Task Force showed that ZAMUDIO participated in a conspiracy to possess and distribute methamphetamine in the Muscatine area.

ZAMUDIO remains in custody in the Muscatine County Jail awaiting a sentencing hearing .

Sixty year prison sentence in child sex abuse case

Today, July 6, 2012, in Muscatine County District Court:

NICHOLAS PALMAREZ, DOB 6/9/1980, was sentenced for six counts of Lascivious Acts with a Child. The Court, the Hon. Thomas G. Reidel, imposed consecutive sentences for a total term of not to exceed sixty years. In addition the defendant was sentenced to lifetime supervised release as if on parole following the completion of his prison term. The defendant will also be required to register as a sex offender.

The investigation was conducted by the Muscatine Police Department. The investigation showed that PALMAREZ sexually abused a child for an approximately two year long period. The child was under the age of 10. The child victim had been forensically interviewed at the Mississippi Valley Child Protection Center in Muscatine in connection with the investigation.

"This case shows the importance of well-trained law enforcement and forensic interviewers in a child sex abuse case," said Muscatine County Attorney Alan Ostergren. "They did an excellent job developing the evidence I needed to prosecute the case. I am very happy with this result and am proud that we were able to get justice for this child," he continued.

The defendant, who had been held in the Muscatine County Jail during the pendency of the case, was ordered to be transported to the Iowa Medical and Classification Center at Oakdale to be transferred to the custody of the Director of the Iowa Department of Corrections.

Muscatine County District Court 7/6/2012

TERESA LONG, DOB: 5/26/1973, of 711 Liberty Street, Muscatine, was sentenced for the offense of Possession of a Precursor Substance. Investigation by the Muscatine Police Department and Muscatine County Drug Task Force revealed that LONG had been in possession of pseudoephedrine with the intent that the substance be used to manufacture methamphetamine.

The Court granted the defendant a deferred judgment and placed her on probation for two years. She was ordered to pay a $750 civil penalty.



LYLE KELLNER, DOB: 10/11/1976, of 5 Jacqueline Drive, Muscatine, pled guilty to five offenses: two counts of Trafficking in Stolen Weapons, Theft in the Second Degre, Forgery, and Burglary in the Third Degree. The charges were investigated by the Muscatine Police Department and involved a complex series of theft related offenses committed by KELLNER between December of 2010 and the Summer of 2011. KELLNER will be sentenced August 17, 2012, at 9:15 a.m.

Guilty plea to child endangerment and domestic abuse

Tuesday, July 3, 2012, in Muscatine County District Court:

JOSEPH DWAYNE TITUS, DOB: 9/16/1988, formerly of 312 1/2 9th Street, Muscatine, pleaded guilty to two counts of Child Endangerment Causing Serious Injury and one count of Domestic Abuse Assault Causing Injury.

TITUS was arrested July 7, 2011, by the Muscatine Police Department following an investigation into injuries suffered by two children aged one and three years old. The investigation showed that Titus had abused the children of his live-in girlfriend. Both children were malnourished and one suffered a fractured arm. The investigation also showed that Titus had struck his live-in girlfriend and caused injuries. Both children have recovered from their injuries and are living with another relative.

The plea agreement with Titus calls for consecutive prison sentences for a total term of not to exceed 21 years. Titus will be sentenced at a hearing in approximately six weeks. The date of Titus' sentencing hearing was not available at the time of this press release.

Muscatine County District Court 6/29/2012

June 29, 2012, in Muscatine County District Court:

KEENATH TURNER, DOB: 12/25/1988, formerly of 518 W. 3rd Street, Muscatine, was sentenced after having violated the terms of a previously granted sentence of probation. TURNER was sentenced for the offenses of Burglary in the Third Degree and Theft in the Third Degree. TURNER violated the terms of his probation by failing to report to the Residential Correctional Facility and committing new criminal offenses. The Court imposed concurrent prison sentences for a total term of not to exceed five years.

HALEY MARTIN, DOB: 2/26/1990, no current address, was sentenced after having violated the terms of a previously granted sentence of probation. MARTIN violated the terms of her probation by absconding from the Residential Correctional Facility. The Court imposed a prison sentence for a total term not to exceed ten years for the offenses of Possession of a Precursor Substance and Theft in the First Degree.

MAXWELL HONS, DOB: 8/28/1990, OF 106 W. 7th St., West Liberty, was sentenced after having pled guilty to the offense of Sexual Abuse in the Third Degree. The Court granted the defendant a deferred judgment and placed him on supervised probation for a period of three years. In addition the defendant will be required to register as a sex offender. The investigation conducted by the Muscatine County Sheriff's Department showed that Hons had sexual intercourse with a 15 year old female in February of 2012.

Muscatine County District Court 6/15/2012

Today (6/15/2012) in Muscatine County District Court:

CHASE BRYSON, DOB: 4/6/1991, of 165 Iowa St., Letts, was sentenced for the offense of Criminal Mischief in the Second Degree. He received a deferred judgment and was placed on probation for two years. He was ordered to pay a civil penalty of $750 and make victim restitution.

TONY HILLS, DOB: 7/26/1993, of 6707 51st Street South, Muscatine, was sentenced for the offense of Criminal Mischief in the Second Degree. He received a deferred judgment and was placed on probation for two years. He was ordered to pay a civil penalty of $750 and make victim restitution.

HILLS and BRYSON were arrested by the Muscatine Police Department after damaging car windows in the 200 block of Amherst Avenue in Muscatine.


MARIO GARCIA, DOB: 2/7/1988, of 420 E. 4th Street, West Liberty, was sentenced for the offense of Fraudulent Practices in the Second Degree. He received a deferred judgment and was placed on probation for three years. He was ordered to pay a civil penalty of $750 and make victim restitution.

Investigation by the Iowa Department of Workforce Development showed that GARCIA had fraudulently received unemployment insurance benefits.


CAYLIN NICHOLS, DOB: 2/24/1990, of 414 Evans Street, was sentenced for the offense of Possession of a Precursor Substance. She received an indeterminate prison term not to exceed five years and a fine of $750.

Investigation by the Muscatine County Drug Task Force showed that NICHOLS had been in possession of pseudoephedrine with the intent that the substance be used to manufacture methamphetamine.


ADAM ELIJAH BASSETT, DOB: 8/2/1986, of 901 E. 9th Street, Muscatine, pled guilty to two counts of Child Endangerment.

During BASSETT's guilty plea he stated that he left his two minor children in the custody of a babysitter while knowing that the babysitter was not a suitable person to care for children. The childen both received minor injuries. The case was investigated by the Muscatine Police Department.

BASSETT will be sentenced July 27, 2012, at 9:15 a.m.
