Prison sentences in two sexual abuse cases

Today, September 12, 2014, in Muscatine County District Court:

ROBERT HEICK, DOB: 6/6/1971, of Atalissa, was sentenced after pleading guilty to three counts of Lascivious Acts with a Child. The Court imposed consecutive sentences of imprisonment for a total term of not to exceed 30 years. In addition, HEICK will be on supervised release as if on parole for the remainder of his life following his term of incarceration. He will also be required to register as a sex offender for life.

The prosecution of HEICK was the result of an investigation by the Muscatine County Sheriff's Office. Investigation showed that HEICK had sexual contact with a child in the year 2007.

NINH VAN TRINH, DOB: 6/21/1983, of West Liberty, was sentenced after pleading guilty to Sexual Abuse in the Third Degree. The Court imposed a prison sentence of not to exceed ten years. In addition, TRINH will be on supervised release as if on parole for the remainder of his life following his term of incarceration. He will also be required to register as a sex offender for life.

The prosecution of TRINH was the result of an investigation by the Muscatine County Sheriff's Office and the West Liberty Police Department. Investigation showed that TRINH forced sexual contact with another person in an incident on November 29, 2013.

The Court entered judgment in the following additional cases:




JOSHUA LANFIER, DOB: 6/21/1981, of Muscatine, pleaded guilty and was sentenced for the offense of Forgery. In addition, LANFIER admitted to being a habitual offender under Iowa law due to prior felony convictions. The Court sentenced LANFIER to a term of imprisonment not to exceed 15 years. The arrest and prosecution of LANFIER was the result of an investigation by the Muscatine Police Department which showed that he stole checks and passed them at Muscatine area businesses.

MICHELLE PEREZ, DOB: 7/23/1988, of Iowa City, was sentenced following her guilty plea to Theft in the Second Degree. The Court imposed a suspended sentence of incarceration for a term not to exceed five years and placed PEREZ on supervised probation. She must also pay restitution. Investigation by the West Liberty Police Department showed that she tendered a counterfeit check at a West Liberty business and received cash in return.
